You spoke. We listened.
The needs assessment was an exciting process. Our board members trekked across the county to have formal and informal conversations about the current state of recreation programming and facilities.
We conducted:
- 6 Public Meetings with 92 total Participants
- 12 Stakeholder Interviews
- 2 Recreation Staff Focus Groups
And mailed surveys to 8,556 households. 1,196 of you responded by the deadline, and you gave us some great ideas about what Morgan County residents want for the future.
The big takeaways from the Morgan County Recreation Needs Assessment taught us that Morgan County is ready for:
- Coordinated recreation planning between towns.
- Include smaller towns like Hillrose, Log Lane Village, Snyder, and Weldona in planning.
- An indoor, year-round aquatics center.
- Improved facilities, like a renovated outdoor pool in Brush, a new facility in Wiggins, and additional baseball fields.
- Combine funding to sustain projects through small taxes, grants, user fees, and municipalities.
Creating a Special District
The most sustainable way to make this happen is to create the Morgan County Parks and Recreation District. This is a Special District that will work together with the towns and an elected board to move recreation forward.
The elected board positions will be divided into five director districts. Here is the map of the director districts:
- District 1 The jurisdictional boundaries of the City of Fort Morgan east of Main Street and S. Main Street.
- District 2 The jurisdictional boundaries of Ft. Morgan west of Main St. and S. Main Street.
- District 3 The jurisdictional boundaries of the Towns of Hillrose and Brush, and the unincorporated area of Snyder.
- District 4 The jurisdictional boundaries of the Town of Wiggins, and all unincorporated areas of Morgan County west of Highway 52 north of I-76 and then continuing on the same boundary line south of I-76.
- District 5 The jurisdictional boundaries of Log Lane Village, and all unincorporated area of Morgan County east of Highway 52 north of I-76 and then continuing on the same boundary line south of I-76. not included in Director Districts 3 or 4.
This will allow unincorporated citizens a voice in recreation planning and budgeting for the first time.
