What can you tell me about the new facilities listed in the Service Plan?
- The Service Plan lists ideas for facilities in Brush!, Fort Morgan, and Wiggins. However, facilities details will be decided by an elected Board of Directors through community feedback.
What can you tell me about the elected Board of Directors for the recreation district?
- There will be an elected Board of Directors that oversee the budget and strategic direction of the recreation district. The county will be divided into five Director Districts that have similar number of voters. There are two At Large Seats dedicated to serving unincorporated Morgan County.
I’m nervous that facilities in my town will shut down if this passes.
- The goal of Morgan Strong is to bring expanded recreation to everyone in Morgan County. It is contrary to our mission to shut down current recreation programming or facilities. Creating the recreation district will provide more support for the facilities and programming you love. The additional revenue will also create more jobs in recreation to support you city’s rec staff. It’s all about addition – not subtraction.
I’ve heard there will be a property tax. I’m not comfortable with a property tax.
- The way to fund the recreation district is a sales tax NOT a property tax (mill levy). This sales tax will not tax groceries or agriculture equipment.
